Ardisia Macrocarpa Mystique – Looking for a hardy flowering hedge with a splash of colour all year round? Look no further than Ardisia Macrocarpa Mistique.

Mistique is a native evergreen girl, a rainforest-type shrub with dark glossy green foliage that reaches out in long fingers.  Little pink flowers hang from short stems mostly blooming in the warmer months but often appearing all year round.

Pollinators love the open flowers and birds appreciate the small fruits that mature in autumn. She’s a great choice for a wildlife garden.

This is a versatile shrubby plant for hedging, privacy screens or clipped into a formal specimen. Left to her own devices she’ll bush out and reach just shy of two metres.

Mistique is an underused and under-appreciated hedging plant and we can’t figure out why. It’s got all the attributes and requires little care.

If you want something a bit different to the neighbours Mistique will do you proud.

• What to use me for: I make a deep evergreen hedge with pretty flowers and look great as a clipped specimen tree.

• I grow to: I’ll reach 180cms in height and bush out the same distance.

• Where to place me: I like full sun to partial shade. I’m more likely to flower in a sunnier position.

• How far to space me: Give me a metre for a nice tight hedge. 

• Soil Conditions: I’m not fussy and need little attention once established.
