Syzygium Elite

Elite is a medium – fast grower with those traditional Syzygium dark glossy leaves, but in Spring the new growth emerges in pretty bronze. It’s densely packed with foliage and the branches have a habit of gently weeping – it’s a really pretty Lilly Pilly especially when it’s tiny white flowers emerge and gradually turn into bird-attracting berries.

Although it makes an excellent slightly slower growing screen, this is the best Syzygium for topiary work because it’s soooo pliable and good-natured. It’s also frost and drought tolerant once established.

Quick Facts: 

• What to use me for: I’m a tough, dense shrub perfect for a tall hedge, and a great topiary specimen too. 

• I grow to: I’ll get 3-5 metres high and 2-2.5 metres wide.

• Where to place me:  Full sun and part shade suit me best.

• How far to space me: For tight dense hedging space me 1.5 metres apart.

• Soil Conditions: Nothing wet and boggy please, but anything else is good by me. I like thick mulch and a slow release fertiliser in spring.
