Asplenium Victoria. The WOW factor fern with it’s distinct wavy fronds, growing in a rosette pattern and each new leaf unfurling from the centre as it ages. Miss Victoria is the sister plant to Asplenium antiquum but just with the beautiful somewhat curly fronds. To her friends she is known as the Ruffled Birds Nest Fern. She is very comfortable in the dark forests and grows on tree trunks so is more than happy in those low light rooms in your home.
On top of all that she is pet friendly so she ticks a lot of boxes.
Please note: Do not touch, move, or handle the new delicate fronds as they emerge from the nest. They are extremely fragile. If you touch them, there is a high chance of them becoming damaged or deformed.
Quick Facts:
-
What to use me for: I look great under trees in a tropical garden, on the deck in a hanging baskets indoors
-
I grow to: 1.5m high, 1.5m wide in the garden but stays much smaller in a pot.
-
Where to place me: Part shade to shady position or indoors in a pot. Don’t expose me to direct sun other than the very early morning sun.
- Watering: Keep my compost moist, but don’t let me become soggy. Avoid watering right into the “nest” as that encourages mould and rot. Water my soil rather than the plant.
- Soil Conditions: I thrive in rich soil loaded with plant food like organic matter. In a pot I need a free-draining potting mix, please. During the growing season (April through September), fertilize me about once a month with weak liquid fertilizer.
