Fittonia verschaffeltii Starlight also goes by the name of Nerve Plant, Mosaic Plant and Painted Net Leaf. Originally from rainforests in South America, this baby likes a nice humid spot in the house with plenty of nice bright, indirect sunlight.
The Fittonia Starlight is definitely not the most low maintenance plant and it will need a bit of love and attention to keep it alive. It likes to be constantly moist with a high level of humidity and will do best with frequent misting. We find the best spot a fittonia is in the bathroom or a terrarium. Getting the conditions right is tricky but once you get there all the hard work will be worth it to see the lush green and white foliage.
If you start to see soft, yellowing leaves this is a good indication the plant is getting too much water, make sure your pot has a drainage hole in the bottom and that you are using a good quality, free-draining potting mix.
If the leaves start to drop and they are dry and shrivelled this is an indication that it is too cold for this tropical beauty. Pop it somewhere nice and warm away from cold windows or doors that might be letting a draught in.
If the plant starts to get leggy pinch off the tips to create a nice rounded plant. Sorry to babble but we like to get you off to a good start.
