Acronychia imperforata
Acronychia imperforata is also known as the Fraser Island Apple.
This native evergreen shrub is so hardy it will withstand salt and wind making it perfect for harsh coastal gardens – but tough doesn’t mean unattractive, oh no!
This medium-sized shrub is clothed all year round in glossy dark leaves and in summer produces masses of beautiful little yellowy-cream flowers that the blue tiger butterfly enjoys.
Then, in autumn Acronychia imperforata invites the birds over to lunch on its small golden orange berries.
This is a top choice for wildlife gardens, coastal areas, and spaces that are dry. Just water until it’s established and mulch the roots once a year for masses of perfumed blossom.
