Cordyline congesta is an Australian native rainforest plant, more commonly known as Narrow-leaved Palm Lily. Considered a rare species, it has long, narrow, strappy, green leaves with slightly toothed margins. Numerous purplish coloured flowers are produced and it bears fruit that is orange-red in colour. It should not be confused with Cordyline rubra which also has red fruit.
Cordylines are happy to grow underneath trees, although brighter light levels will intensify the colours of their leaves. They are low maintenance plants and like to have moist soil but not wet. They will withstand dry conditions and the varieties with darker foliage will tolerate full sun.
