Hedera Helix Star – you’ll know this better as Common or English Ivy.
This deep green evergreen creeper with prominent white veins covers unsightly walls, trees, fences and the side of a house without any tying in – it has small ‘caterpillar feet’ aerial roots on a woody stem that grip a surface and just keep going up.
This creeper loves full sun and shade, it’ll grow almost anywhere without making a fuss. In summer it produces small barely noticeable flowers that pollinators love, and then in autumn, its small berries feed the birds.
If you’re after a no-nonsense trailing hanging basket you can’t do better than English Ivy. It needs an occasional water but that’s about it.
Star will grow to approximately 3m wide in landscapes and provides year-round shelter for insects and small birds. It’s a perfect choice for wildlife gardens.
Please note this plant can only be sold in QLD – we are sorry for any inconvenience.
