Zephyranthes Candida is the posh name for our gorgeous little Rain Lily. This lovely low ground cover looks like long glossy grass until it rains, and then white cup-shaped flowers pop out to enjoy the moisture. Beautiful white flowers will appear nearly all year round.
This is a pretty mound-forming border plant that covers bare patches of soil especially when it’s mass-planted. They’re oh-so-lovely in rockeries, pots, or scattered randomly around the garden. We shouldn’t have favourites, but you know – this is a real heart-stealer.
Despite being pretty and delicate they are frost hardy and withstand drought once established- although if you want flowers regular water is required.
Quick Facts:
- What to use me for: I’m a ground cover extraordinaire so I’m perfect for borders, under-planting, making a splash in rockeries, pots and anywhere there’s a gap. In most climates my leaves are evergreen. My grass-like foliage adds texture to a border.
-
I grow to: 30cms high and 30cms wide.
-
I am currently: 10-15cm
-
Where to place me: Plant me in full sun to part-shade with my feet out of boggy soils.
-
How far to space me: 15-20cms apart, please.
-
Soil Conditions: Free-draining soils are really important to me and a layer of mulch will help keep moisture in and weeds out.
