Lavender Avonview – who out there doesn’t love the soothing fragrance of traditional lavender? It’s one of our favourites and it’s never really gone out of fashion.
Avonview lavender has grey-green narrow leaves with toothed edging and a woolly texture that are highly aromatic. Just brush past and your ankles release that heavenly scent.
Her long-lasting flowers appear in Spring. They are narrow spikes of rich purple with pale violet bracts that perfectly set off the grey-green of her leaves. Nature always brings the right colours together.
Lavender attracts pollinating insects to your garden and when you plant them near a seating area the scent aids relaxation, de-stressing the busiest of folk.
Pop Avonview in well-drained soil with plenty of sun and she’ll come back year after year. Trim the dead flowers back in winter but don’t cut into the woody parts.
Lavender is perfect in a sunny border, in a pot or used to create a small hedge. During summer flowers can be brought indoors to dry out for home-made potpourri – how very chic!
