Everyone recognises Liriope Muscari but few people know its name. You’re going to rock the pub quiz now! 

Liriope Muscari Samantha is a grass-like perennial with tidy clumps of deep glossy green and strap-like foliage. This foliage is pretty enough in its own right but just wait for the flower spikes!

They shoot through in pretty pale pink upright arrows during late spring to early summer and last literally ages before turning into small black berries.

Muscari is the perfect edging plant in a border that gets some shade and looks stunning mass-planted under taller trees. If you’ve got a few spare pots Samantha will come back each year and fill them to the brim.

Low care, pretty foliage and a tough nature mean everyone should have Liriope.

• What to use me for: Plant me beneath trees, tall shrubs and fill the gaps in your border.

• I grow to: I’ll reach 30cms to 60cms high and the same in width.

• Where to place me:  Semi-shade and shade suit me.

• How far to space me:  Give me 40cms of room.

• Soil Conditions: I’m drought tolerant and can deal with most types of soils.
