Viburnum Odoratissimum Emerald Lustre Fed up with Nosy Norman peering over your fence to tut at the patchy lawn while you’re reading a magazine? Viburnum Emerald Lustre is the people’s choice for a fast growing thick screen. It has leathery, oval, mid-green leaves that emerge in pretty bronze, then in summer sweet-smelling delicate white flowers appear followed by small berries in Autumn.
No wonder it’s so popular. Emerald Lustre needs little care once established, but it responds well to clipping. If left alone it’ll grow to four metres and block out all those neighbours. You can grow this versatile viburnum as hedging or as a bushy evergreen on the deck. A shiny evergreen on the patio year-round breaks up that bare, cold scene and provides shelter and food for birds too. It’s so hardy that it’ll tolerate wind, cold, droughts and light frost. It’s a virtually bomb-proof evergreen screen perfect for beginners, busy folk, and those who like reading magazines.
